Tailoring got a little less serious at Paris Fashion Week
Paris Fashion Week SS27 made a case for mixing tailoring with sportswear, bold colour and contrasting textures for everyday dressing.

Paris always closes fashion month, and it tends to be the week where the earlier cities’ ideas get settled into something people can actually picture themselves wearing. This season, that something is a wardrobe where the rules of dressing no longer sit in separate boxes. Tailoring borrows the ease of sportswear, a loud shade turns up on an otherwise sober outfit, and fabrics are layered so the eye has something to touch as well as look at. It is a way of dressing that feels built for a real day, with a commute, a meeting and an evening plan all in it.
The runways made the case clearly. Dior sent fluid tailoring, breezy dresses, fringed accessories and mixed prints down an open-air runway, while Loewe offered a twisted take on sportswear. At Balenciaga, familiar silhouettes were given new volume and structure, which brought the discipline of the atelier into everyday clothes. Maison Margiela set hard against soft, with hardened panels cutting across trench coats and draped tops curving outward at the chest. Saint Laurent marked ten years of Anthony Vaccarello with a collection dipped in gold, a reminder that colour and shine can be the whole point of an outfit. Taken together, these shows describe a season where polish and ease are expected to coexist.
Sister says
Sister says the easiest way to wear this season is to let one piece bring the structure and another bring the comfort. A sharp blazer or a trench with a defined shoulder looks completely different over a jersey tee and relaxed track trousers, and a crisp poplin shirt feels fresher with a sporty skirt or a pair of sleek trainers. Colour is the next layer, so pick one vivid shade like a saturated red, a bright cobalt or a rich gold and wear it as the loudest thing in the room, with everything else kept in black, white, grey or camel. Texture finishes the look, and this is where fringe, knits, quilting, satin and a little sheen start to matter, because two or three different fabrics in one outfit make it look considered even when the shapes are simple. A cropped knit under a tailored jacket, a silky skirt with a chunky cardigan or a fringed bag against crisp cotton all do the job. If you want to test the trend before committing, start with one jacket and one colour and build outward from there.
TL;DR
Paris SS27 was about mixing worlds, with tailored pieces worn alongside sportswear, bright colour set against neutral basics, and layers of different textures in a single outfit. Pair one structured piece with one relaxed piece, add a single bold shade, and let the fabrics do the rest.
